8 Benefits of Facial Massage

Facial Massage may be quite a hyped beauty treatment at the moment. Quartz facial rollers, Gua Sha and Jacquet pinching may all be terms that you have stumbled upon recently in the beauty sphere, but are the followers and fans really on to something?

Facial massage techniques have been a part of Eastern beauty culture for centuries with the belief that it can help to contour the face and change the shape. There are also claims that facial massage can have anti-ageing benefits on the skin tone improving elasticity and preventing sagging.

Here are the 8 benefits of facial massage in more detail and how to give yourself a spa-level facial massage at home.

1. Anti-ageing and Wrinkle-fighting

A recent study showed that facial massage has actual benefits on anti-ageing and wrinkles. Participants who used a skin massaging device in addition to their face cream or serum saw improvements in skin elasticity and tone. Even those who used their hands and worked the product in according to facial massage methods were amazed at the improved results. This can be mainly attributed to the massage assisting the product to penetrate more deeply into the skin’s layers and improve its efficacy.

2. Acne

Facial massage can help to ease the inflammation of acneic skin. This is probably because the massage improves blood circulation in the surface of the skin helping to rid the skin of toxins. However, if your skin is highly sensitive and reactive it is recommended that you go lightly with the massage and consult a dermatologist first.

3. Sinus Pressure

Sinus massage is a great way to relieve congestion, pressure and discomfort. This may even result in a more contoured look given the alleviation of the puffiness that sinus pressure can cause. This type of facial massage may also assist in draining mucus, alleviating headaches and boosting circulation.

4. TMJ Conditions

TMJ conditions also known as the temporomandibular joint conditions, wow, a literal mouthful, can suffer from discomfort in the jaw or face given that they are inclined to jaw tightening and clenching – this can lead to headaches, earaches and lockjaw. Trigger point massage has shown to alleviate the symptoms of TMJ conditions, helping them to relax their jaw and therefore ameliorate the symptoms.

5. Glowing Skin

We all want glowing skin and facial massage may just be the way to get there, off course you still need to use a great product, but knowing how to apply it to get the very best of it is always a bonus. The benefits in deeper penetration of products like serums and creams, increased blood circulation, exfoliation of the dull dead skin uppermost skin layer and improvement in muscle tone all leads to radiant, glowing skin.

6. Facial Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation occurs when the muscles in the face become stronger, this helps to hold the face shape better and results in the appearance of vitality and youth. Facial massage has direct benefits to strengthening the muscle tissue in the face and just like a massage for the body, it increases muscle tone and definition.

7. Managing Scar Tissue

Facial massage can improve the appearance of scar tissue, speeding up the healing process by the increase in blood circulation, exfoliating properties of massage and flattening out of raised surfaces. Try massaging your scars once or twice a day with a good tissue oil, this will speed up healing and flattening of the scar.

8. Skin Blood Flow

As mentioned a few times in this post is the effects that facial massage has on skin blood flow and circulation. This is basically what drives the healing and aesthetic benefits of massage on the skin. It is great for lymph drainage, skin health and all-round radiance of the skin.

How to give yourself a spa-level facial massage at home

1. Skin Prep First

Make sure your skin is prepped and clean before you begin. Tie back your hair and cleanse the skin with a gentle facial wash. For the full-on spa experience use Delixirs Face Wash that is formulated with Frangipani, Saffron, Lemon and Honey. The beautiful fragrance will invigorate your senses and the cleansing formula will eliminate all impurities getting your skin ready for the massage.

2. Use the Right Products

Choose a good serum or cream to massage into your skin. Or use both! Start with Delixirs Face Serum which is a lighter formulation, the massage will help it penetrate deeply into the skin where it will be most effective. Restorative and rejuvenating, this formula is the ultimate anti-oxidant rich, antiaging power product that will give you a refreshed glowing look.

In the next part of your massage, you can use Face Cream, a heavier formula that intensively moisturises the skin. Massaging this into the face, softens the skin, and brightens it, giving you a lasting radiant look.

How to Massage

  1. Squeeze a small amount of Face Serum into your palms. Warm up the formula in your hands and evenly distribute it over your hands and fingertips.

  2. Press your fingers between brows and slide up your forehead, repeating several times to cover the entire area.

  3. Then, massage your fingertips from the centre of your face out past your cheeks and to your ears.

  4. Drop one level lower and repeat the same sliding, up-and-out motion across your jawline as needed.

  5. Finish with your neck. Gently use vertical strokes from the collarbone upward.

You can repeat the whole process with Face Cream for that added all-day glow.
